Walking is good for the brain

Hey, can someone confirm this?

Neighbourhoods without any pavements, just roads. It might seem like a bizarre concept, but new housing developments in America are being built without anywhere to walk. The only stroll that's taken in the local vicinity is from the front door to the car. (Walking Towards a better life, BBC, July 15th, 2005)

Sick.

It's true and it's pathetic. I used to work with people who would walk maybe 100 feet in the course of a full day. And people wonder why Americans are so fat.

Now that I'm in the US, I'm pleasantly surprised at the existence of sidewalks in Washington. I can even see people biking and none of them have been killed before my eyes so far. No that nobody tried though...
