Straight Shooter

I knew we'd have fun with this. Here's my favourite reaction to Cheney's accidental shooting of a friend.

"'The CIA assured Cheney that Harry Whittington was actually a pheasant,' added Democratic speechwriter Jeff Nussbaum."

It's worth reading the Washington Post article to get the whole sample.

And so now there's the heart attack ...

I wonder what will happen if Whittington dies. Will Cheney be charged with accidental homicide?

I'm interested to see how the accident will be spinned by Cheney's office - who seems to be on his own, according to latest reports, since he pissed the President's team with the way he handled the issue. Apparaently, it will go along the lines "He was too worried about his friend to care about the press." As if there wasn't a hundred people around him to take care of the press.

Also, it looks like the whole thing will cast a bad light on Cheney - which is incredible considering all the dubious things he got away in the past. And now, a hunting incident will finally stain his reputation. Sigh...

Dear Mozza,

If he does die... and I hope he doesn't..

I am sure they will spin it as a heart-attack unrelated to the shooting.

Don't you think?

Dear Misguided,

They could argue that the guy is 78 (and might have a weak heart) but I believe it would still be a difficult spin. I can't see how they could win this one (but then again, they've been good at it). I think it's sad that it happens because of such an accident, rather than the real political issues.

It is sad that this is deemed worse than anything else he has done ... the world has seemed slightly crazy lately. I'm getting tired of the mainstream media fanning the flames too ...

I hope that this will finally draw attention to his secretive ways. It's too bad that the issue didn't catch up ealier, but I'm glad that it happens at long last.
