Take this Internship and Shove It

The title of this post is stolen from the title of an op-ed in the New York Times of today.

Hallelujah!

This issue needs all the attention it can get. People are working for free and often have no choice but to do so. As the author says, it creates an oversupply of cheap labor that drives the salaries down. May it be that yours too is affected? It's an issue that touches more than just interns.

Funny, I went to your blog to pass this article along to you. Glad to see you found it already.

When I was in college, I had to work waiting tables during the summer. My parents couldn't afford for me to take a whole summer off for an unpaid internship.

Thanks for thinking of my blog. I'm quite interested in this topic, indeed.

And you're right: unpaid internships are biased in favour of the rich who can afford to work without a salary. One more argument against this modern slavery.
